Museum of Art and History
During your hotel stay in Cholet, visit the Cholet Museum of Art and History
Entirely devoted to the history of the Vendée wars and to art from the 16th to the 20th century, the museum houses some surprising works. A must-see during your stay in Cholet!
Organised in two parts, the museum suggests that you start your visit with the Art part: vast, light-filled rooms follow one another to show you the hidden treasures of the place. Giovanni Battista Salvi, Jean-François de Troy, Pierre Charles Trémolières and many other artists from all centuries are exhibited here.
Before moving on to the history part of the museum, young and old alike will be captivated by "The Grav Labyrinth": a work from the 1960s. Visitors are transformed from spectators into actors as they walk through its walls. The work appeals to your senses: touch, hearing and sight... a succession of corridors that will give you a unique experience!
Continue your visit in the History part of the museum: from the Gallo-Roman era to the First World War, the exhibitions retrace the great hours of Cholet. Let yourself be told the story of the Vendée wars which opposed the Catholic armies to the Republicans at the end of the 18th century.
Paintings, weapons, documents, statues and sculptures are on display to take you back to the great events of the region.
